ESG Analytics and Data Researcher

At Moody's, we're committed to harnessing the power of data and analytics to drive business growth and mitigate risk. As an ESG Analytics and Data Researcher, you'll play a critical role in developing and implementing mathematical models that predict the financial impact of natural catastrophes.

About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our Model Development department in London. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for developing and maintaining sophisticated mathematical models that analyze the effects of tropical storms, extra-tropical storms, thunderstorms, storm-surges, and freshwater floods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain mathematical models that predict the distributions of possible damage due to natural catastrophes
  • Analyze and interpret large datasets to inform model development and improvement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate models into business workflows
  • Communicate complex analysis results and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and developments in climate science and data analytics
Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant subject (e.g. mathematics, statistics, computer science)
  • Strong mathematical foundation with particular focus on numerical modeling, statistics, probability, and computational science
  • Demonstrated success in developing sophisticated mathematical models in academic or industrial environments
  • Experience with climate analyses & data, with knowledge of tropical storm processes particularly advantageous
  • Strong ability in modeling languages (e.g. R, Python, Julia)
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong user skills in a Linux/Unix environment
  • Experience with high-performance clusters
  • Excellent time management and planning skills with a commitment to delivery
