Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Climate Hazard Modeler to join our team at Moody's Investors Service. As a Climate Hazard Modeler, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining mathematical models that predict the financial impact of natural catastrophes.

Our team uses a combination of observational and reanalysis data, as well as numerical, statistical, data science, and engineering models to quantify natural hazard risk. We are pioneers in the development and application of cutting-edge, combined statistical and numerical modelling methods.

The ideal candidate will have a strong mathematical foundation, with a focus on numerical modelling, statistics, probability, and computational science. Experience with climate analyses and data, particularly with tropical storm processes, is highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain mathematical models that predict the financial impact of natural catastrophes

  • Communicate complex analysis results and insights effectively to both internal and external stakeholders
Requirements:
  • PhD in a relevant subject, such as mathematics, statistics, or a related field
  • Strong mathematical foundation, with a focus on numerical modelling, statistics, probability, and computational science
  • Experience with climate analyses and data, particularly with tropical storm processes
  • Strong ability in modelling languages, such as R, Python, or Julia
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
