About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer. As a key member of our community, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe passage of children and adults at designated crossing sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stand at designated crossing sites, holding the 'lollipop' pole in all weather conditions, to ensure the safe passage of pedestrians.
  • Stop traffic as necessary to facilitate the safe crossing of pedestrians.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with children, colleagues, and other adults to ensure a smooth and safe crossing experience.
  • Monitor and respond to changing traffic conditions, adapting your approach as needed to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure seamless communication and coordination at crossing sites.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and carry out procedures for safely stopping traffic.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with children, colleagues, and other adults.
  • Good perception and knowledge of car stopping times, particularly in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to follow written instructions and procedures.
  • Familiarity with relevant sections of the Highway Code and its applications.
