Highway Engineer Job Description

Carrington West is seeking a highly skilled Highway Engineer to join their team across Scotland. As a leading engineering consultancy, they deliver high-quality design and engineering services across various sectors.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and prepare highway designs for new and existing roads, ensuring compliance with client specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
  2. Manage and coordinate highway engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and quality standards are met.
  3. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil engineers, environmental consultants, and transport planners, to deliver integrated solutions.
  4. Provide technical advice and support to clients and colleagues on highway engineering matters, including traffic management, drainage, and pavement design.
  5. Conduct site inspections and assessments to inform the design process and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  6. Liaise with local authorities, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and successful project outcomes.
  7. Ensure all designs and projects comply with relevant legislation, including health and safety standards and environmental regulations.

Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  2. Proven experience in highway engineering, including design, construction, and project management.
  3. Proficiency in relevant software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design tools.
  4. Knowledge of highway design standards, including DMRB (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges) and local authority specifications.
  5. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work on complex engineering challenges.
