About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Metrology Engineer to join our Manufacturing Metrology Group at the National Physical Laboratory.

This group is based in Huddersfield and focuses on providing confidence in measurement to manufacturing companies across the UK.

We are looking for a metrologist to undertake a hands-on role and supplement our skills in non-contact metrology techniques, while still having an interest and preferably experience in traditional CMM measurement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in delivering dimensional measurement to manufacturing and participating in research projects into developing methods of measurement.
  • Working with external customers and on internal research projects.
  • Developing measurement strategies and taking measurements.
  • Processing, interpreting, and reporting on data.

We are now working in a hybrid way, with a mix of remote and office working. We strive to offer a great work-life balance, dependent on the role and part of the business.

About You

Requirements:

  • Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant Science or Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in using at least one non-contact metrology system.
  • Proven experience in extracting features from point cloud data.
  • Some experience in MCosmos, PCDMIS, or Calypso, with an understanding of CMM measurement.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to communicate with colleagues and customers with a range of technical backgrounds.
  • An organised and systematic approach, with an emphasis on quality of delivery.

We would also welcome applicants with a strong understanding of common manufacturing processes and experience in manufacturing quality, process engineering, or continuous improvement projects.
