Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced physiotherapist to join our Medical Therapy Team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a Specialist Medical Physiotherapist, you will be responsible for providing advanced assessment and treatment for patients with complex medical conditions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Communication

As a key member of the multi-disciplinary team, you will ensure effective communication with other professions, both verbally and in writing, to achieve patient-centered goals and maximize patient potential.

You will communicate effectively with patients with various communication difficulties, including those with visual, hearing, or learning impairments, and provide empathetic and interpersonal skills to encourage and empower patients and carers to maximize rehabilitation potential.

You will be responsible for accurate and comprehensive documentation of all patient contact, in line with CSP standards and local guidelines.

Service Delivery and Improvement

You will be responsible for implementing relevant standards and policies, including those applicable to the Trust, and ensuring the quality and effectiveness of care for patients.

You will identify areas where the service is not working effectively or efficiently and liaise with the line manager to propose solutions.

You will support the ongoing development and improvement of Physiotherapy services, including participating in the Department Out-of-Hours Physiotherapy Services and maintaining appropriate competencies.

People Management and Development

You will manage clinical and non-clinical duties, ensuring effective prioritization, delegation, and completion of work to appropriate standards and deadlines.

You will share responsibility for the running of the team, prioritizing your duties accordingly, and supporting others to do the same.

You will supervise and teach Band 5 physiotherapists, physiotherapy technicians, and students, and support other members of the team and physiotherapy students via formal and informal supervision and yearly appraisals.

Patient Care Delivery

You will undertake comprehensive assessments and treatments of patients with complex presentations, seeking guidance from senior staff as required, and providing guidance to more junior staff.

You will devise individualized physiotherapy management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based practice, and work with members of the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless delivery of care.

You will be competent in the treatment of respiratory patients as part of the on-call rota and identify and highlight any concerns regarding patient health to the appropriate health professional with the appropriate degree of urgency.
