Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom Department for Business & Trade Full time
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Support Engineer to join our team at the Department for Business & Trade. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of energy regulation in the UK.

About the Job:
As a Technical Support Engineer, you will play a crucial role in implementing rigorous regulations aligned with the Regulators' Code. You will work closely with key stakeholders, including DESNZ, OFGEM, and internal teams, to develop and execute strategies that achieve our regulatory goals. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the continued compliance of gas and electricity meter populations, providing technical advice and support to OPSS/DBT colleagues, and liaising with manufacturers and trade organisations to reduce barriers to trade.

Your Responsibilities:
• Support Delivery: Collaborate with the Utilities Team Manager to deliver the team's statutory responsibilities under primary legislation and develop policies to accommodate new technologies.
• Coordinate Enforcement: Ensure ongoing compliance of gas and electricity meter populations by coordinating enforcement activities.
• Provide Technical Advice: Offer expert advice and support to OPSS/DBT colleagues, other government departments, meter manufacturers, industry groups, trade associations, and energy suppliers, participating in various technical committees as needed.
• Liaise with Stakeholders: Work with manufacturers and trade organisations to reduce trade barriers and ensure UK manufacturers can take advantage of increased market opportunities, researching new, innovative technologies that require appropriate metering.
• Contract Management: Undertake contract management and performance monitoring activities associated with an outsourced service provider.
• Reduce Regulatory Burden: Assist businesses in complying with legal requirements to reduce the regulatory burden.

Requirements:
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds who can demonstrate the following essential skills and experience:
• Technical Expertise: A degree (or equivalent) in engineering or a related field is required. Candidates should be able to quickly acquire and apply technical knowledge, particularly in metering systems.
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical capabilities to interpret complex data, identify trends, and inform strategic decision-making are necessary.
• Stakeholder Management: Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders are essential.
• Strategic Thinking: A strategic mindset with the ability to develop and implement effective plans, adapt to changing priorities, and deliver results under pressure is required.
• Clear Communicator: An ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences is crucial.

Benefits:
In addition to your salary of £32,858, you will receive a contribution towards your Civil Service Pension scheme, learning and development opportunities tailored to your role, flexible working options, and a culture that encourages inclusion and diversity.
