Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Psychiatrist to join our team at the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. As a key member of our multidisciplinary treatment team, you will provide high-quality psychiatric care to our inpatient population and lead the clinical team in developing effective treatment plans.

Responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate psychiatric illnesses in patients
  • Provide clinical leadership to the treatment team to develop and implement treatment plans
  • Manage psychiatric medications and document patient response to treatment
  • Collaborate with consultants and enter orders for diagnostic tests and therapies
  • Attend court hearings and complete medical record documentation
  • Coordinate patient care and discharge planning in accordance with state and federal guidelines
Requirements
  • MD degree or equivalent
  • Graduate of an approved psychiatry residency program
  • License to practice medicine and surgery in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Federal license to prescribe medications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • Clinical experience in forensic psychiatry
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English
