Job Title: Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Manpower UK - RISE. As a key member of our engineering function, you will be responsible for the design and integration of our electric vehicle conversions and EV conversion kits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out detailed mechanical design work, including 3D modelling, prototyping, and design verification testing, while ensuring compliance with automotive industry standards and legal vehicle conversion regulations.
  • Select mechanical components with consideration for standardisation, obsolescence, availability, and cost.
  • Prepare and present mechanical designs at design reviews, while ensuring design files and information are up-to-date and stored appropriately within the PDM/PLM.
  • Liaise with other departments, including sales and marketing, mechanical build, electrical, and production to ensure products are designed for manufacture & assembly and customer requests are handled efficiently.
  • Take the technical lead on all projects, coach and support junior engineers in design techniques, define departmental processes, and identify opportunities for process, productivity, and quality improvements.
  • Ensure all supporting documentation is complete and available such as BoM's, installation guides, etc.
  • Develop effective relationships with all stakeholders, adhere to all company policies and procedures, and consistently apply workplace management and rules.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Automotive experience.
  • Advanced SolidWorks proficiency.
  • Proven track record in leading product development projects.
  • Extensive expertise in designing bespoke automotive projects.
  • Proficiency in GD&T.
  • Proficiency in creating detailed 2D drawings for manufacture.
  • Practical experience in assembly and testing.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience in mentorship.
  • Experience working to tight deadlines in a customer-centric business.

Desirable Experience:

  • Familiarity with business tools such as Asana, Jira, etc.
  • Familiarity of EV systems and battery design is desirable but not essential.
