We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Communications and External Affairs to lead our corporate communications and external affairs efforts. This is a key role that will play a critical part in shaping the Royal Shakespeare Company's reputation and profile among policy makers, industry stakeholders, thought leaders, and the wider public.

In this role, you will work closely with our Co-Artistic Directors, Executive Director, and Senior Leadership Team to develop and oversee a cohesive and integrated corporate communications strategy that delivers bold and ambitious strategies to maximise our reputation, brand positioning, and secure funding opportunities.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive corporate communications strategy
  • Leading our external affairs efforts, including advocacy and policy work
  • Managing our media relations and reputation
  • Overseeing our corporate communications team and providing leadership and coaching
  • Collaborating with our Senior Leadership Team to achieve our organisational goals

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A proven track record of working at a senior level in corporate communications and external affairs
  • Demonstrable experience in a public policy environment, preferably with experience in the cultural and creative industries
  • Ability to command credibility in convening and leading policy discussions with political and policy stakeholders
  • Confident in the building and use of data and evidence to demonstrate impact and make the case for change
  • Proven track record in brand and reputation management
  • Ability to think strategically, innovatively, and critically about communication
