Clinical Educator for Learning Disability and Autism

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Educator to join our Learning Disability and Autism Acute Liaison Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering education and training to the acute hospital workforce on supporting people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nursing or a related healthcare profession, with experience in specialist areas of learning disability and autism. They will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, and carers, and have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
The Clinical Educator will work closely with the Liaison Team to identify training needs, develop and deliver bespoke training packages, and maintain records of training. They will also be responsible for promoting the needs of people with learning disabilities and/or autism within the acute trust, and working with ward managers and departmental managers to raise awareness of pathways and policies.
The successful candidate will be a key member of the Learning Disability and Autism Acute Liaison Team, and will work collaboratively with the team to identify need, develop and facilitate workforce education across the acute trust sites.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver education and training to the acute hospital workforce on supporting people with learning disabilities and/or autism
- Develop and deliver bespoke training packages to meet the needs of the workforce
- Maintain records of training and evaluate the effectiveness of training
- Work closely with the Liaison Team to identify training needs and develop training plans
- Promote the needs of people with learning disabilities and/or autism within the acute trust
- Work with ward managers and departmental managers to raise awareness of pathways and policies
- NMC Registered Learning Disability/Adult Nurse or HCPC Registered AHP or equivalent professionally registered practitioner
- Degree in nursing studies or healthcare related subject (UK equivalent)
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Willing to undergo training as necessary
- Evidence of post graduate study
- Training/teaching qualification
- Current issues in healthcare relating to people with learning disability and autism, including health inequality
- Health needs of people with a learning disability and autism
- Thorough understanding of contemporary nursing issues
- Understanding of the local and national agendas for learning disability and autism within health and social care
- Experience of working within the MCA/MHA frameworks to support decision making
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Evidence of innovative practice
- Motivator ability to lead and motivate others
- Flexibility, adaptable, lateral thinker
- Excellent communication skills, in a range of styles to suit the audience
- Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft office and clinical systems
- Ability to use research and integrate the evidence base into practice
- Complex reasoning and critical thinking skills, to inform decision making
- Ability to plan and deliver effective training sessions
- Ability to work under pressure across competing priorities
- Ability to communicate empathetically with colleagues, patients, relatives, and/or carers
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Awareness of STSFT guidelines and policies
- Understanding of STSFT organisational structures
- Experience in specialist areas of Learning Disability and Autism
- Evidence of practice development
- Post registration experience some of which will be working at a senior level
- Significant relevant and recent specialist experience of providing healthcare related support to people with a Learning Disability and Autism as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT)
- Evidence of leading service developments/managing change
- Relevant and recent experience of developing and delivering training
- Experience of service user involvement / co-production
- To understand the need for confidentiality in accordance with both the Data Protection Act and national / local guidelines
- Experience of working in a team, the ability to work independently with self-motivation and without direct supervision
- Working knowledge and understanding of health issues and health inequalities for people with disabilities and/or Autistic population
- Research or audit experience
- Experience of management and supervision
- Experience working with both Adults and Children & Young People
