Job Description

We are seeking an experienced School Librarian to work with us in Tower Hamlets and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will support the school by managing, maintaining and promoting the school library and teacher resources.

  1. Support teaching staff by identifying and purchasing quality resources for the school library and classroom libraries to deliver the National Curriculum and primary strategies, while addressing equality and diversity issues.
  2. Assist in delivering information skills and information literacy teaching in the school.
  3. Select resources from the Schools Library Services.
  4. Promote a love of reading among all children and develop the role of the library in the school, engaging actively with diversity and equality issues.
  5. Work closely with teaching staff to plan and deliver the information skills curriculum and promote reading for enjoyment throughout the school.
  6. Manage the school library and its resources:
  7. Select, acquire, maintain and withdraw library stock, ensuring a balance between subject and ability levels, and show active engagement in diversity and equality issues.
  8. Help the school make full use of the Schools Library Service and other sources of information and support.
  9. Engage children and teaching staff in planning activities using social media and software platforms appropriately.
  10. Supervise and train all library staff, volunteers and pupil helpers.
  11. Disseminate information about books, reading and reading events to children, teachers and the wider school community.
  12. Maintain a welcoming and accessible library environment for all children and staff, including displays, guides and publicity materials.
  13. Work with school staff to ensure full use is made of the Schools Library Service.
  14. Use knowledge of children's literature to help children find books that excite them.

Working Hours: 23 hours per week, Monday to Friday, working across various primary schools in the borough of Tower Hamlets.
