Job Summary
We are seeking an exceptional Hematology Specialist Consultant to join our team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a highly specialized service, caring for patients with acute porphyria.
About the Role
The successful candidate will conduct outpatient clinics for patients with acute porphyria, provide telephone/email advice to other hospitals across the UK, review inpatients admitted with acute porphyria or related problems, and teach medical, nursing, and laboratory staff about clinical aspects of porphyria.
Responsibilities
- Conduct outpatient clinics for patients with acute porphyria in King's College Hospital and at other hospitals across England.
- Provide telephone/email advice to other hospitals across the UK on the investigation and management of patients admitted with possible or established acute porphyria.
- Review inpatients at King's College Hospital admitted with acute porphyria or related problems.
- Teach medical, nursing, and laboratory staff about clinical aspects of porphyria.
- Offer clinical advice and support to the porphyria and haematology laboratories involved in the diagnosis and management of patients with acute porphyria.
- Take part in laboratory, translational, and clinical research, including clinical trials, of patients with acute porphyria.
Requirements
- FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
- MRCP or equivalent qualification.
- PhD or MD (obtained or in progress).
- Full and specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
- Experience in all aspects of haematology culminating in award of CCT or equivalent.
- Previous experience of managing patients with inherited haematological or metabolic conditions.
