Job Title: Head of Sustainability Initiatives

Oxford City Council's Sustainability Team is accelerating city-wide sustainability, particularly carbon emissions reductions and air quality improvements, by working with and for our partners across the city council and in and around the City of Oxford. This role will manage the development and delivery of the innovative 'FutureFit Area Based Insetting' (FABI) project, which enables large local organisations to offset their carbon emissions by supporting low-carbon projects within their local area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project manage multi-partner and innovative carbon reduction projects to accelerate carbon emissions reductions in the city.
  • Work collaboratively internally and externally to effectively manage risk and lead the Net Zero Transition Project Officer to ensure high performance in driving forward reduction of barriers and accelerating take-up of retrofit through collaborative partnership working.
  • Play a key role in the development of funding bids, income generation, and horizon scanning for opportunities that further the Council's Net Zero objectives.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with strategically important external partnerships, such as community groups, the private sector, County Council, and distribution network operators, as well as effective internal working relationships, to facilitate the delivery of Net Zero.
Requirements:
  • Strong project management skills with experience in managing multi-partner and innovative carbon reduction projects.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team to achieve high performance in driving forward reduction of barriers and accelerating take-up of retrofit.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with strategically important external partnerships.
