Job Title: Head of Sustainability Initiatives

Oxford City Council's Sustainability Team is accelerating city-wide sustainability, particularly carbon emissions reductions and air quality improvements, by working with and for our partners across the city council and in and around the City of Oxford. This role will manage the development and delivery of the innovative 'FutureFit Area Based Insetting' (FABI) project, which enables large local organisations to offset their carbon emissions by supporting low-carbon projects within their local area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project manage multi-partner and innovative carbon reduction projects to accelerate carbon emissions reductions in the city.
  • Work collaboratively internally and externally to effectively manage risk and lead the Net Zero Transition Project Officer to ensure high performance in driving forward reduction of barriers and accelerating take up of retrofit through collaborative partnership working.
  • Responsible for playing a key role in the development of funding bids, income generation and horizon scanning for opportunities that further the Council's Net Zero objectives.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with strategically important external partnerships, as well as effective internal working relationships, to facilitate the delivery of Net Zero.

This role requires a strong understanding of sustainability principles, carbon reduction strategies, and project management techniques. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and build strong relationships.
