The salary for this role is £19.45 per hour, working 18 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible timings between 08:00 - 17:00.



Job Description


This Library Assistant position plays a vital role in the day-to-day running of the Army Library at Merville Barracks, Colchester. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing an excellent customer service experience to armed forces personnel and ensuring the smooth operation of the library.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Operating the library in accordance with site standard operating procedures, ensuring the efficient management of library stock and facilities.


  • Liaising with the Army Education Centre to suggest new stock relevant to the needs of the library's customers, enhancing the overall user experience.


  • Processing new library stock, withdrawing and disposing of old stock as directed by Army Library and Information Centre, and maintaining the library's collections.


  • Providing information searches for users using electronic and printed sources, guiding users on library facilities, and promoting digital literacy.


  • Managing user records in accordance with GDPR, recording statistics of library use, and submitting quarterly reports to Army Library and Information Centre management Board Meetings.




Requirements


To be successful in this role, you will require:



  • 5 GCSEs Grade C or equivalent NVQ Business Administration Level 2, demonstrating a solid foundation in administration and customer service.


  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse audiences and provide clear guidance on library resources.


  • A methodical and organized approach to work, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely completion of tasks.


  • Proficiency in Microsoft packages and a willingness to learn bespoke systems, enabling effective workflow management.


  • An ability to make informed decisions, prioritize tasks, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
