SEN Classroom Assistant Position Description

An inclusive primary school in Epping is seeking a dedicated SEN Classroom Assistant to support young students in their daily learning activities. In this full-time, permanent role, you will work closely with teachers to ensure that each child receives the resources, guidance, and encouragement they need to thrive in their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide one-on-one and small group support for students with varying SEN needs, helping them to develop their academic skills and social interactions.
  2. Collaborate with teachers to create and adapt lesson plans and learning materials that meet the diverse needs of students, ensuring accessibility and meaningful participation.
  3. Help cultivate a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages student engagement, curiosity, and a love for learning.
  4. Engage in regular professional development opportunities to enhance your skills in SEN education and stay updated on best practices in the field.
  5. Participate in school events and initiatives that promote inclusion, celebrate diversity, and foster a sense of community among students and families.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children, ideally with exposure to SEN support or in an educational setting.
  • A positive, patient, and empathetic approach to working with young learners, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students and support their individual needs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a willingness to collaborate closely with teachers and other staff members to create an effective learning environment.
  • A current and clear Enhanced DBS check is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
