Job Description

The Head of Science Department will play a crucial role in shaping the academic vision of Harris Lowe Academy Willesden.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive science curriculum that aligns with the academy's aims and curricular policies.
  • Manage and deploy staff, financial, and physical resources within the science department to ensure effective teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide opportunities for personal and academic growth, and to monitor student outcomes.
  • Lead the development of subject and faculty improvement plans, and ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Recruit, build, and manage an effective team of motivated staff, and ensure the effective operation of target setting, monitoring, and evaluation systems.
Requirements
  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree, with management training.
  • Demonstrate successful teaching of GCSE at good or better level.
  • Have experience of initiation and effective management of change.
  • Show good understanding of how children learn and how to raise standards of achievement.
  • Have good communication skills in speech and writing.
