About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to lead on Retail matters across the wider Group, while providing support to key internal stakeholders. As a key member of our legal team, you will report directly to our Head of Legal, Retail and work closely with the Head of Legal, Vets and other members of our friendly and welcoming legal team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on Retail matters across the group, including general commercial contracts
  • Work closely with Retail leaders and colleagues to ensure we maintain best practice across the organisation
  • Support Retail-related forums across the Group
  • Advise on legal matters pertaining to pricing, marketing and consumer issues
  • Draft, review and evaluate internal policies and legal documents when necessary
  • Organise, update and deliver legal and compliance training for colleagues

About You

  • A degree in law (UK qualification preferred) with 4+ years PQE in a law firm or in-house
  • In-depth knowledge of general commercial contracts and retail agreements, including drafting and negotiating such contracts
  • Detailed knowledge of advising on such matters
  • Experience/knowledge of providing general commercial advice
  • In-house experience would be desirable
  • Good communication skills with a good command of spoken and written English
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills, with an attention to detail and a commercially pragmatic attitude
  • Ability to work independently and with respect for reporting procedures
  • Ability to draft legal documents/summaries/emails in a concise and thorough manner and in plain language
  • Ability to respond efficiently to routine legal questions or issues
  • Ability to identify and analyse core Retail issues
  • Stay on top of regulatory changes and key case law
  • A proactive 'can do' attitude
  • Comfortable working both collaboratively and independently within a hybrid working environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office and a good command of IT skills
