Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to provide comprehensive support to a disabled individual diagnosed with motor neurone disease. As a Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in assisting with daily activities and helping to enhance quality of life.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
  • Provide mobility assistance, including transferring to and from wheelchair, bed, or other surfaces.
  • Administer medications as prescribed.
  • Accompany the client to medical and dental appointments and provide assistance as required.
  • Support with household tasks such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, and laundry.
  • Assist with transportation needs, including driving or arranging for transportation.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support, engaging in conversation.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of the client at all times.
  • Follow care plans and instructions provided by healthcare professionals and family members.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a personal care assistant or similar role preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Motor Neurone Disease (MND/ALS) issues and experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust.
  • Patient, empathetic, and compassionate demeanour.
  • Reliable and punctual, with the ability to maintain a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
