Colorectal Nurse Specialist

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Colorectal Nurse Specialist to join our team at Whittington Health NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, providing high-quality care to patients with colorectal cancer.
Main DutiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for assessing patients referred to the colorectal rapid access pathway, ensuring they receive the most appropriate investigation as soon as possible. This will involve conducting telephone and face-to-face triage assessments, booking appropriate tests, and providing patient information and education.
The post holder will work closely with the established colorectal STT nurse and the colorectal team to continue to develop and improve the 'Straight to Test' service. This will involve setting up and running telephone assessment clinics, running nurse-led clinics for holistic needs assessments, and remote clinics for cancer surveillance patients.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing specialist nursing care to patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer, including seeing inpatients and outpatients, acting as the keyworker for these patients, and providing coordination of care and support to patients and their families.
Person SpecificationWe are looking for an individual with a strong background in oncology and palliative care, with experience in working in a variety of settings. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Essential criteria include first-level RGN registration, education to degree level or working towards, and relevant post-registration qualifications in oncology/palliative care. Desirable criteria include education or working towards Masters level, people management skills, leadership qualities, and advanced communication skills.
