Sussex Community Foundation Trust is a leading provider of NHS community services in East and West Sussex, serving over 3 million people. We are seeking an experienced Advanced Wound Care Specialist to join our team.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting community teams, community inpatient units, and primary health care staff in managing patients with complex and/or chronic wounds. This will involve promoting excellent care at the heart of the community.

You will assist in the development and delivery of tissue viability educational programs for healthcare personnel involved in wound care and skin care within the local health economy. This will include formal group training, facilitating TVN Forum sessions, and one-to-one training of staff, patients, and relatives.

The role also involves working as part of the wider Sussex Community Foundation Trust to promote best practice and ongoing service development responsive to the wound care needs of the area served.

When necessary, you will deputise for the Band 7 Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist and work on Trust-wide tissue viability-related projects.

Responsibilities
  1. Support community teams, community inpatient units, and primary health care staff in managing patients with complex and/or chronic wounds.
  2. Assist in the development and delivery of tissue viability educational programs for healthcare personnel involved in wound care and skin care.
  3. Facilitate TVN Forum sessions and provide one-to-one training for staff, patients, and relatives.
  4. Work as part of the wider Sussex Community Foundation Trust to promote best practice and ongoing service development.
  5. Deputise for the Band 7 Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist and work on Trust-wide tissue viability-related projects when necessary.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Registered nurse qualification/degree or diploma, NMC registration, Leg Ulcer Management Module or Complex wound or Tissue Viability module, Evidence of a range of clinical competencies.
  • Experience: 2 years post-registration experience, Up to date competencies in Doppler ABPI and compression bandaging, Experience working in a community setting desirable.
  • Skills: Good numeracy and literacy skills, Good communication and negotiation skills, Demonstrates competency in a range of clinical skills e.g. wound management, compression bandaging, Doppler assessment skills, Knowledge of current local policies informing wound, leg ulcer and pressure ulcer management, Ability to demonstrate knowledge/understanding of boundaries of role, Motivational interviewing skills.
