Job Summary

To work effectively as part of a team, providing patient care in conjunction with trained nurses. Promote excellent communication to support patient dignity and care. Assist in maintaining a safe working environment and providing care. Participate actively in the day-to-day management of the decontamination room.

At all times adhere to statutory, mandatory, and Trust guidance, as well as the Health Care Assistants Code of Conduct.

Main Responsibilities

  • Clean and prepare endoscopes after training and in accordance with Health & Safety guidelines.
  • Coordinate and manage workload in the decontamination room, ensuring sufficient endoscopes for timely patient sessions.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and assist with the receipt and storage of goods into and out of the decontamination room.
  • Ensure decontamination records are maintained and compiled for the Endoscopy manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Clean and prepare endoscopes after training and in accordance with Health & Safety guidelines.
  • Coordinate and manage workload in the decontamination room, ensuring sufficient endoscopes for timely patient sessions.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and assist with the receipt and storage of goods into and out of the decontamination room.
  • Ensure decontamination records are maintained and compiled for the Endoscopy manager.
  • In conjunction with the Manager, ensure those working in the decontamination room adhere to policies, practices, and protocols.
  • Participate in decontamination and infection control audits.
  • Liaise with the Infection Control Department and Head of Sterile Services to maintain and share best practice.
  • Liaise with the Endoscopy Health and Safety representative regarding COSSH to maintain and share best practice.
  • Report equipment faults to Engineers and act upon instructions, keeping all documentation.
  • Ensure all daily and weekly testing is completed in the decontamination room.
  • Take an active role in teaching decontamination techniques and practices to new Endoscopy nurses, junior doctors, and theatre staff.
  • Participate in the orientation of new healthcare assistants and act as a role model and mentor.
