Endoscopy Decontamination Specialist

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Endoscopy Decontamination Technician to join our team at Northampton General Hospital. As a key member of our Endoscopy department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective cleaning and preparation of endoscopes for patient use.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and prepare endoscopes in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines and protocols.
- Coordinate and manage workload in the decontamination room to ensure efficient and timely patient sessions.
- Maintain adequate supplies and assist with the receipt and storage of goods into and out of the decontamination room.
- Ensure decontamination records are maintained and compiled for the Endoscopy manager.
- Participate in decontamination and infection control audits and provide feedback for improvement.
- Liaise with the Infection Control Department and Head of Sterile Services to maintain best practice and share knowledge.
- Report equipment faults to Engineers and act upon instructions, maintaining accurate documentation.
- Ensure all daily and weekly testing is completed in the decontamination room.
- Teach decontamination techniques and practices to new Endoscopy nurses, junior doctors, and theatre staff.
- Participate in the orientation of new healthcare assistants and act as a role model and mentor.
Person Specification
Essential
- Endoscopy experience and knowledge of decontamination procedures.
- Previous experience in an acute setting.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to change.
Desirable
- GCSE in maths and English.
- NVQ level 2.
