We are seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to join our team as a Head of Year. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a college that has a strong reputation for its pastoral care and support for students.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Student Support: Identify and address the support needs of students to ensure they have equal access to high-quality education.
  2. Liaison and Communication: Act as a liaison between students, teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  3. Collaboration and Teamwork: Work closely with teachers and other colleagues to identify and address issues affecting student performance and behaviour in the classroom.
  4. Relationship Building: Build positive relationships with students, promoting their social, emotional, and academic development.
  5. Behaviour Management: Address and manage challenging behaviours effectively, employing de-escalation techniques and restorative practices.
  6. Individualised Support: Provide individualised support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and those with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) where required.
  7. Goal Setting and Progress Monitoring: Help students set and achieve personal and academic goals and monitor their progress regularly.
  8. Skills Development: Support students in developing social and emotional skills, resilience, and self-confidence through mentoring, coaching, and positive reinforcement.
  9. Vocational Support: Support students in vocational tasters and offsite work experience to enhance their practical skills and employability, where required.
  10. Transition Support: Oversee and support students transitioning into further education or employment.
  11. Form and Briefing Sessions: Plan and deliver morning and afternoon form/briefing sessions to proactively address and manage behavioural issues, ensuring a positive learning environment.
  12. Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures, and promoting a culture of vigilance and care.
  13. Training and Development: Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  14. Team Meetings and Supervisions: Attend regular team meetings, supervisions, and appraisals as required.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications such as:

  1. Youth and Community Work qualification or equivalent.
  2. Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  3. Maths and English minimum grade C/4 at level 2.

You will also have relevant appropriate experience working in a youth-related environment, including previous experience of working with emotional regulation and with positive behaviour/de-escalation strategies.

Proficient IT skills and a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office.A commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.Awareness of cultural diversity and proficiency in cultural competence to effectively engage with students from diverse backgrounds and communities.Ability to understand and relate to the experiences and challenges faced by disengaged young people.Compassionate, flexible, and proactive approach to engage and motivate students, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.Aptitude to identify underlying issues or barriers to engagement and develop creative solutions to address them.
