Barhale, a leading civil engineering and infrastructure specialist, is seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Safety and Environment Lead.

Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum.

Safety and Environment Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support HSEQ Managers & HSEQ Advisory Team within the area of control to meet Health, Safety, Environment & Quality Management systems requirements.
  • Assist the HSEQ Director in developing and embedding HSEQ Management Systems and strategic actions at a Corporate level for business improvement.
  • Review Health & Safety and Environmental Training Strategy to maintain its structure and content meeting ongoing business needs.
  • Support communication and promotion of monthly themes.
  • Promote Occupational Health & Wellbeing at a local level.
  • Provide leadership, support, and focus to the HSEQ Team on Be Right First-Time initiatives and monitor Quality Control defined by the HSEQ Systems & Audit Manager.
  • Communicate HSEQ alerts following incidents and poor-quality standards to promote learning and prevention.
  • Maintain HSEQ performance statistics monthly as requested.

HSEQ Monitoring Responsibilities:

  • Conduct 2No HSEQ Inspections every month in the area of control.
  • Ensure Facilities Managers at company premises uphold legal obligations and provide HSE-related support.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Nebosh Diploma or equivalent as a minimum (IOSH ideal).
  • Extensive SHE experience within a civil engineering environment and rail sector experience beneficial.
  • CSCS Safety Professional card.
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to encourage team members to work independently under tight deadlines.
  • Pride in setting high-quality standards and attention to detail.
  • Excellent use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Good communication skills with professional telephone manners.
