Job Summary

Norfolk State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Director - Office of Accessibility Services & International Student Services (OASIS). The University provides services for international students with matters related to immigration, as well as promotes international education and intercultural understanding as mandated by the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and assist international students with immigration requirements addressing various legal components and processes in efforts to maintain F1 status.
  • Supervise, manage, and support the daily functionality of operations; to include Accessibility Services and the "Student and Exchange Visitors Information Systems" (SEVIS).
  • Supervise "Counselors-in Residence", graduate students, and presidential interns; train faculty, staff, and the University community at large, the general public, and local public school systems concerning O.A.S.I.S.
  • Actively ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; and state and local requirements regarding accessibility students.
  • Evaluate and interpret accessibility documentation to determine eligibility and or appropriate accommodations; supervise the development, and implementation of formal written accommodation plans for each qualified student.
  • Collaborate with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and outside agencies, to resolve matters surrounding individual accommodation plans and ADA compliance; liaise with University's Counseling Services.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USCIS immigration laws, statutes, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive experience with technology-based applications such as Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to a diverse audience of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising the work and performance of others.
  • Previous experience reviewing, editing, and authoring departmental policies.
  • Previous experience in a higher education environment, generally equating to more than three years, serving in a mentoring, advising, tutoring, or administrator capacity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local support services including mental health and behavioral services.
  • Master's degree in counseling or similar discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
