About the Role

Somerset Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Estates Surveyor to join their team. As a key member of the property department, you will play a crucial role in shaping the council's property strategy and delivering high-quality development projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and evaluate complex technical information to develop commercial judgments and provide professional advice.
  • Help negotiate terms for acquisition or disposal of sites to ensure best value is obtained.
  • Identify and coordinate external and internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure cases and schemes are progressed effectively.
  • Outline scopes and detailed design to ensure fit with applicable rental markets.
  • Work closely with the council planning function to ensure strategic objectives are secured through site allocation decisions.

Requirements

  • Display an excellent understanding of property development and regeneration.
  • Display an understanding of planning legislation and processes.
  • Demonstrate experience of compulsory purchase orders, disposals, and acquisitions.
  • Possess relevant experience and professional qualifications - MRICS.
  • The ability to manage and work in partnership with multiple stakeholders.
