Research Scientist for Design Optimization in Soft Robotics

Background

This project is part of the smart manufacturing group led by Prof. Charlie Wang at The University of Manchester. The goal is to develop a deformable mannequin to facilitate customized garment production for different body shapes using a soft robotic system.

Project Overview

The project aims to leverage the capabilities of soft robotics to provide a more flexible and adaptive solution for garment production. This research will be conducted in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at The University of Manchester, and is funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

Job Responsibilities

The Research Associate will work on developing simulation technology for controllable deformation and geometric optimization of chamber design. Additionally, the Research Associate will assist in the design and fabrication of mannequins, collaborating with other researchers in the project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics
  • Strong research background in computational design, advanced manufacturing, geometric modeling, or robotics
  • Excellent skills in C++ programming and mathematical formulation
