About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Community Paediatrics team at Central London Community Health Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive and specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to children with complex communication needs and eating and drinking difficulties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with other members of the multi-professional team, including Occupational Therapists, Dietitians, Physiotherapists, Nurses, and Support Workers, to provide a seamless service aiming to improve and maintain functional communication and eating and drinking skills.
  • Assess and treat clients with complex communication needs and eating and drinking difficulties, using evidence-based practice and outcome measurement to provide the most effective treatment.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans, taking into account the client's specific needs, cultural, religious, and linguistic differences.
  • Work flexibly across all required teams and sites, including community clinics, client's own homes, schools, and nurseries.
  • Supervise junior staff, including Speech and Language Therapists, Assistants, and Speech and Language Therapy students.
  • Participate in multi-professional team meetings, actively contributing and chairing as required, ensuring all Speech and Language Therapists support integrated working.
  • Respond to inconsistent work patterns and manage a diary, re-prioritizing as required.
Person Specification
  • Recognized SLT degree or equivalent.
  • Current AHP with UK HCPC registration.
  • Member of a relevant Clinical Excellence Network.
  • Evidence of competence in managing complex dysphagic patients, including those requiring enteral feeding.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including observation, listening, and empathy skills.
  • Independence in managing dysphagia within a paediatric population.
  • Experience in using a range of assessment techniques for managing patients with dysphagia and complex needs.
  • Good analytical and organizational ability.
  • Ability to listen effectively and provide constructive feedback to families and colleagues.
