Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and caring individual to join our team as a Chemotherapy Unit Ward Clerk. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for patients on arrival to the unit, requiring excellent communication skills and a sympathetic understanding of patients' needs.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently but also as part of a team, with the ability to prioritise and organise their workload effectively. They will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records on the Patient Administration System.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for answering the chemotherapy unit reception phone, responding to patient queries, and signposting accordingly. They will also be required to work closely with the Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment Clinical Nurse Specialist and her community team to develop an extended service.

The Chemotherapy service is led by a Senior Sister who is supported by her deputy. We work closely with the oncology and haematology service, consisting of specialist Clinical Nurse Specialists who work closely with Consultants and Chemotherapy Nurses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records on the Patient Administration System
  • Answer the chemotherapy unit reception phone and respond to patient queries
  • Work closely with the Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment Clinical Nurse Specialist and her community team
  • Develop an extended service with the oncology and haematology team
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Significant and recent relevant experience with at least 1 year's experience of working in the NHS, Outpatients in particular
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, oral, and electronic communication with nursing and medical staff
  • Able to work on own initiative but also as part of a team
  • Able to develop systems to promote efficient and effective working within the team
