Job Purpose

The Scottish Prison Service is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team as Residential Officers. This role is a critical part of our mission to contribute to making Scotland safer by protecting the public and reducing reoffending.

Key Responsibilities
  • Encourage positive behaviors in individuals through engaging with rehabilitation and reintegration initiatives and processes.
  • Contribute to the prevention and constructive management of challenging behaviors while demonstrating fairness and consistency.
  • Manage individuals' case work and exercise professional judgment in responding to particular needs and challenges.
  • Complete all administration and communications relevant to the role, including processing, analyzing, and disseminating information.
  • Contribute to effective operational risk management by ensuring the safe and secure supervision of those in our care.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to professional development, including undertaking formal training and qualifications to support their own learning and development as well as the development of those in our care.

Essential requirements include experience of providing support, advice, or guidance to others, making a positive difference to the lives of others, and managing challenging circumstances or behaviors.

The candidate will also possess excellent communication skills, the ability to use a computer and other digital devices to process, analyze, and disseminate information, and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse range of people.

Selection Method

The selection process will consist of a Situational Judgement Test, Cognitive Ability Test, Group Exercise, Written Exercise, and Interview.
