Senior Specialist Audiologist/Clinical Scientist

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Scientist/Specialist Audiologist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a comprehensive hearing aid service to the child population of Scarborough, including the provision of a range of audiometric investigations and aural impressions for all age groups.

The post holder will work within national and departmental protocols to provide a comprehensive hearing aid service to patients referred to the Department from GPs and the ENT Department. This will include the provision of a full range of NHS digital hearing aids to all age groups in line with the Modernising Hearing Aid Service directives.

Please note that the main base for this post will be York Hospital, with cross-site working required as the service needs.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking objective testing, including ERA, and performing pure tone, impedance, and speech audiometry testing. They will advise patients and referring clinicians on management plans based on information obtained from these tests as appropriate.

The post holder will also recommend further investigations as required, either referring to the appropriate member of staff or carrying out the procedures if appropriately trained. They will note results of testing in hospital notes and departmental records as appropriate, including providing patient reports as necessary and ensuring that these are filed in hospital and departmental records.

The successful candidate will ensure that departmental child auditory rehabilitation protocols and procedures are adequately documented and are kept up to date with national standards. They will communicate complex information and condition-related information to patients, relatives, and carers of hearing-impaired children, involving sensitive support and counseling where necessary.

The post holder will oversee the pediatric service provision for pediatric hearing assessment and rehabilitation with or without amplification of children of all ages, including young babies. They will assess the general auditory (re)habilitative needs of hearing-impaired adults and children with respect to their audiological status, communication skills, and social needs.

Person Specification
  • BSC/MSC in Audiology or equivalent
  • MSc in Audiological Science
Experience and Knowledge
  • At least 3 years at band 6 in speciality
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience of supervising and training students
Skills and Attributes
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently
