About the Role:

This exciting opportunity has arisen for a Petroleum Trading Operations Specialist to join a dynamic petroleum trading house. Based in Marble Arch, London, the successful candidate will be responsible for handling cargoes lifted from or discharged into refineries in Germany, South Africa, and the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Liaise with counterparts to arrange shipments.
  2. Vet vessels against company vetting and compliance policies.
  3. Work with product managers and charterers to adjust scheduling when unplanned events occur.
  4. Ensure the Trade Finance Department is well informed of all transactions.
  5. Enter and log cargo information and costs in the necessary trading/payment systems.
  6. Manage demurrage risks proactively.
  7. Nominate cargoes to terminals timely and accurately.
  8. Issue documentary instructions and voyage orders.
  9. Nominate inspectors at load and discharge ports.
  10. Liaise with inspectors, vessel agents, insurers, and other parties essential to the business.
  11. Update the trading system (Aspect) with accurate data regarding cargoes.
  12. Ensure cargo quality is achieved and maintained throughout company contractual responsibility.

Requirements:

  1. Degree qualified with at least 5+ years' experience as an operator in the oil and gas industry.
  2. Possess a good understanding of marine operations, its commercial impact, terminals, logistics, refinery operations, marine transportation of product, product specifications, and grades.
  3. Understanding of tariffs, taxation, exchanges, storage terminals, blending, testing methodology/repeatability, inventory management would be preferable.
  4. Experience handling crude oil cargoes would be desirable.
  5. Good problem-solving skills and strong teamwork abilities to work in the operations team.
  6. Strong commercial thinking ability.
  7. Full understanding of deal pricing and risk exposure per cargo would be beneficial.
  8. Able to work independently.
  9. Capable of working as part of a team.
  10. Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  11. Effective communication skills required to liaise with key internal/external counterparts.
  12. German language skills would be beneficial.
