Housing Enforcement Specialist

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join North Somerset Council's Private Rented Housing Team as a Housing Enforcement Specialist. The post holder will be responsible for improving housing conditions in the private rented sector, HMO licensing, Caravan Site Licensing, and unauthorised encampments.
The role involves working on a variety of functions, including visiting homes in North Somerset, working from the Town Hall in Weston-super-Mare, and working remotely. This is a permanent post for 37 hours per week.
About You
- You must have a vocational qualification to at least level 5 (or equivalent) in either environmental health, housing or building construction.
- Extensive experience of improving poor housing conditions in the private rented sector using enforcement options such as improvement notices and prohibition orders is essential.
- Certification in the use of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System to assess housing conditions is also required.
- You should have a broad knowledge of the private rented housing sector and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to represent the council at court and tribunal hearings is essential.
In this Principal Officer role, you will deal with complex cases, provide case management and guidance to other team members, and deputise for the team manager when required. A valid driving licence or alternative suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
Salary: £35,000 - £42,000 per annum depending on experience
