We are seeking a talented Chemist to join our R&D team at our Sheffield site.
The R&D Chemist role within the woodcare team will be responsible for:
R&D Development Work- Developing new products and formulations
- Reformulating existing products
- Conducting laboratory testing of formulations and products
- Managing projects through the stage-gate process from feasibility to scale-up
- Providing support to the QA and Consumer Services Departments
- Advising plant on production batch corrections and complaint investigation
- Managing formulations and recipes within the company IT systems
- Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
- Assisting in departmental stability studies
- Benchmarking testing of woodcare products
- Evaluating and assessing raw materials, including supplier meetings
- Maintaining and calibrating equipment
- Working to and upholding ISO and safety standards
- Ordering consumables
- Writing and presenting reports
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, polymer/materials science or a related technical discipline, and 3 years of experience working in a chemical laboratory. A Master's Degree and industrial chemistry experience are also desirable. The candidate should have experience with decorative coatings products and/or woodcare products, as well as Six Sigma knowledge. Competent IT skills and effective written and verbal communication skills are essential. The ability to work flexibly and respond positively to changing priorities is also required.
Preferred qualifications include the ability to work successfully in a matrixed organization, coatings/paints formulation experience, and a driving license for occasional travel.
