Job Title: Compliance and Health and Safety Manager

At Melior Associates, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Compliance and Health and Safety Manager to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a leading civil engineering contractor and contribute to the development and implementation of our Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.

Job Purpose:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the HSE department, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards. They will also be responsible for developing and implementing quality management systems, driving HSE standards, and providing training and awareness to staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and improve the existing Quality Management System
  • Develop and implement monthly KPIs for HSE performance
  • Work with department heads to establish an annual audit plan
  • Implement audits of HSE, environmental, and quality
  • Identify non-conformities and work with relevant managers to address them
  • Ensure compliance with relevant HSE legislation, codes of practice, and guidance
  • Monitor changes in HSE legislation and guidance
  • Engage with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Support work-winning activities through provision of statements and data
  • Work with the Sustainability Committee to drive environmental performance and develop strategies
Requirements:
  • At least 10 years of experience in a construction environment (preferably civil engineering)
  • Experience of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001), Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001), and Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001)
  • Building and managing a team
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
Qualifications:
  • Full driving license
  • CSCS card
  • Recognized Health and Safety qualification (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH)
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g., IOSH, IEMA, IIRSM)
