Main Responsibilities

The Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist will be responsible for ensuring the quality of service provided by their team is evidence-based, effective, and efficient. This involves possessing significant experience and highly specialist clinical knowledge in the therapy management of older adults in the acute setting, with a range of conditions and comorbidities impacting on their physical, cognitive, and mental health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement standardized and non-standardized assessments and therapeutic interventions for older adults, demonstrating highly specialist knowledge in occupational therapy.
  • Manage risk effectively, making decisions that ensure safe and positive outcomes for patients, and contribute to the repatriation process and therapy provision for trauma repatriated patients from major trauma centers.
  • Lead and manage allocated teams, providing clinical and managerial support to Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Apprentices, and Therapy Support Staff.
  • Work closely with Clinical Leads OT & PT to manage operational responsibilities, including recruitment, staffing rotas, supervision, appraisal, and mandatory training compliance.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the In-patient Therapy Service, ensuring it meets the needs of the diverse population served by Whittington Health NHS Trust.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Occupational Therapy Degree or Equivalent (Dip OT/ BSc OT)
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of completion of courses in line with clinical specialism (e.g. older people, frailty, dementia)
  • Portfolio and evidence of continuing professional development relating to specialism
  • High standard of written and spoken English
Knowledge and Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience with minimum 2 years at Band 7 level in an NHS in-patient setting
  • Post-registration experience with highly specialist knowledge of working with older adults/care of the older person at a senior level
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of occupational therapy standardized assessments, outcome measures, and interventions
  • Experience of risk management and effective decision-making
  • Leadership experience, including supervisory and operational management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work effectively in a team and lead by example
