Job Title: Urology Nurse Specialist

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Urology Nurse Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our urology services.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Consultant Urologists and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive urology services.
  • Manage a follow-up caseload in nurse-led urology outpatient clinics.
  • Participate in managing urological waiting and theatre lists for efficient resource allocation.
  • Assess care needs and develop, evaluate, and set standards for care programmes.
  • Ensure continuity of care between hospital and community services.
  • Perform specialist procedures, including catheter changes and managing urinary stomas.
  • Offer specialist advice to other wards and departments regarding Cauda Equina patients.
  • Coordinate treatments and investigations for patients with bladder, bowel, and sexual dysfunction.
  • Empower patients and carers through holistic assessment, education, and counselling.
  • Develop and maintain nurse-led specialty clinics, including ordering investigations and referrals.
  • Provide knowledgeable support for patients with urinary prostheses.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds with the multi-disciplinary team, documenting interventions.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control policies and safe drug administration.
  • Deliver patient education and in-house training for the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Participate in audits and promote evidence-based practice within the service.
Requirements:
  • RGN Level one
  • NMC registered
  • Completed national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification
  • Continuous professional development
  • Masters or evidence of working towards one (demonstrating graduate attributes)
  • Independent Nurse Prescriber or willingness to undertake this study
  • Experience in caring for long-term patients with spinal cord injuries/urological conditions requiring support with complex care needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including active listening, writing, and verbally, with individuals on a one-to-one basis and with groups
Desirable Criteria:
  • Specialist training relevant to role: Management/Leadership
  • Extensive post-registration experience currently in a relevant clinical environment
  • Relevant experience at band 6
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a professional team
