Job Title: Band 6 Professional Development Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Band 6 Professional Development Nurse to join our vibrant and energetic team in the Paediatric Emergency Department at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dedicated nurse to take on a key leadership role in the department, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the department, supporting junior members of the team, and promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the department and ensure effective communication and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Support junior members of the team in their professional development and provide guidance and mentorship as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures to improve patient care and safety.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of evidence-based practice.
  • Provide leadership and support to the team during periods of high demand or crisis.
Requirements
  • Registered Paediatric Nurse on the NMC register.
  • Substantial post-registration experience working in a complex healthcare setting/Acute NHS.
  • Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in the area supplemented by specialist clinical and/or managerial training and CPD.
  • Experience/willingness to be a practice-based supervisor/assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment.
  • Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration.
  • Relevant and recent clinical experience within the specialty/acute care setting, including the supervision/education of junior staff.
  • Experience of mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Evidence of ability to lead/coordinate a shift/area of the department.
  • Experience in learning from incidents/complaints and supporting changes in practice.
