About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Strategic Bid Manager to work at one of our key engineering clients based at their site.

Main Purpose of the Role

To lead and oversee the end-to-end bid process, acting as a key touch point for bids for all stakeholders. To deliver strategic bids to the customer base, through the management and development of high-quality and compelling proposals to meet business targets for growth and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management of one or more direct reports.
  • Collaborative working and stakeholder management to achieve set deadlines.
  • Influence key internal stakeholders within the immediate peer group, as well as cross-functionally throughout the wider business to deliver the requirements of the role.
  • Coaching of Business Development/Sales/Account/Product Management teams and other business teams as appropriate in the effective use of the bid process to ensure compliance.

Requirements

  • Excellent customer and market knowledge to lead, own, and support the development of proposals.
  • Good basic knowledge of commercial terms and conditions.
  • Excellent bid writing skills.
  • Demonstrable collaborative approach to stakeholder management.
  • Ability to work with self-initiative, using analytical skills and judgement to draw conclusions and make recommendations.

Working Environment

Fluctuating pressure due to peaks and troughs in workload, with periods of high pressure due to deadlines and range/number of bids in the process.

Directly responsible for meeting critical deadlines and exacting customer requirements to ensure business growth as well as retaining existing customers through contract renewals.

The role may involve some travel and out-of-hours working may occasionally be required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Mathematics and English to GCSE standard or equivalent.
  • Formal Professional Qualification such as APMP, Project Management qualification.
  • Experience of managing bids/proposals and projects and delivering to exacting requirements and deadlines.
  • Experience of responding successfully to formal tender exercises.
  • Excellent bid writing skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of working at all levels of an organisation, showing assertiveness and influence.
  • Experience of managing multiple internal and/or external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work without strong guidance in line with Company procedures, delegated authority levels.
  • Line management experience.
