Clinical Nurse Specialist

This is an autonomous role that requires the successful candidate to work as an independent prescriber within their own competencies. Regular clinical supervision and support from senior psychiatrists will be available, as well as peer supervision with other NMPs working in similar roles. The safeguards for the role include those set out in the Trust NMP policy.
Main Duties of the JobThe successful candidate will be responsible for the facilitation of clinics running in each CMHS locality, including clozapine, depot, and wellbeing clinics. This will involve monitoring and follow-ups, as well as developing and embedding the NMP role within the CMHS. The post-holder will work as an independent prescriber, leading and prescribing in both clozapine and depot clinics, as well as a stand-alone nurse prescribing clinic. This may include initiation and ongoing monitoring of psychotropic medications, as well as smoking cessation.

Job ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Facilitating clinics running in each CMHS locality, including clozapine, depot, and wellbeing clinics.
- Monitoring and follow-ups, as well as developing and embedding the NMP role within the CMHS.
- Working as an independent prescriber, leading and prescribing in both clozapine and depot clinics, as well as a stand-alone nurse prescribing clinic.
- Initiation and ongoing monitoring of psychotropic medications, as well as smoking cessation.
- Regular involvement in CMHS assessments where there is a medication/diagnostic issue, allowing for immediate prescribing at the point of assessment, or medication advice to the GP.
The successful candidate will possess:
- A professional care qualification and registration with the relevant provisional body.
- Significant specialist post-qualification experience in the field of severe mental illness.
- Experience of work across service settings and agencies.
- Clinical and audit work within specialist areas.
- Teaching/training with a range of staff and other professions.
- Supervision experience with all grades of staff.
