The University of Oxford invites applications for the role of Senior Operational Director for Paediatrics Research. This is a unique opportunity to join the Institute of Developmental & Regenerative Medicine (IDRM) as our Head of Operations (Maternity Cover for 12 months).

About the Role

This position oversees the effective and efficient day-to-day non-academic management and administration of the IDRM, working closely with the Institute's Director and the Management Committee to develop business plans and secure funding.

As Senior Operational Director, you will lead a team of approximately 9 FTE staff, including 3 direct line reports, overseeing administrative processes, financial and budgetary management, human resources, premises, security, health and safety, support for academic staff, and general administration.

The IDRM is a dynamic research environment with 15-20 research groups and 240 research staff investigating strategies to regenerate diseased or injured tissues. Our research interests span cardiovascular science, neuroscience, and immunology, targeting three major organ systems affected by non-communicable diseases.

This fixed-term contract covers maternity leave for 12 months, during which time you will be responsible for managing complex projects, leading operational staff, and making comprehensive assessments and sound judgments.

About You

We are seeking an empowering and supportive leader with extensive managerial experience at senior level in a devolved, complex, and varied working environment. You must have the ability to motivate operational staff, problem-solve, take initiative, and build effective relationships across the institute and wider university.

You will also possess demonstrable experience of managing complex projects, making comprehensive assessments, and sound judgments.

A strong collaborative and community building approach, allied with a self-directed strategic thinking style, is essential for success in this role.

About the Department

The Department of Paediatrics holds the Athena Swan Gold award, acknowledging innovative policies and practices developed across the department.

$65,000 - $75,000 per annum, depending on experience.
