Head of Operations

We are seeking an experienced Head of Operations to join our manufacturing business in Essex. As a key member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for driving operational excellence and delivering strategic business goals.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of increasing productivity in a manufacturing environment, with experience in developing and implementing strategies to deliver operational excellence in safety, quality, delivery, lead time, cost, and productivity.
You will lead the manufacturing transformation required to achieve strategic business goals, working closely with the plant director and other stakeholders. Your expertise in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement will be essential in driving cultural change and improving operational efficiency.
The role demands a strong leadership presence, with the ability to communicate effectively with teams at all levels. You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve manufacturing processes, reducing costs and improving productivity.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing strategies to deliver operational excellence in safety, quality, delivery, lead time, cost, and productivity.
- Utilising lean tools to lead, develop, and plan lean manufacturing activities, driving a culture of continuous improvement in line with strategic goals and operational objectives.
- Sustaining world-class health, safety, and environmental performance by working cross-functionally with the EHS lead.
- Maintaining company KPIs, ensuring targets flow up and down from the shop floor to business leadership; deploying an effective and user-owned visual management system.
- Participating in the New Product Introduction process to ensure efficient and cost-effective manufacturing is possible.
- Ensuring effective communications to promote a proactive and accountable operational culture.
- Reviewing and, as appropriate, introducing changes to the manufacturing organisation to ensure the most effective utilisation of resources and optimise costs.
- Supporting the delivery of budgeted orders, sales, margins, EBITDA, and administration costs as a member of the Operational Leadership Team.
- Defining capital investment requirements and preparing payback justifications.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a highly complex assembly environment within manufacturing - medical, food & drink, chemical, electrical or engineering sectors.
- Committed to a continuous improvement ethos, with the ability to drive cultural change from a legacy mindset.
- Excellent leadership capabilities with the ability to communicate with, motivate, and lead teams at all levels.
- Demonstrable working knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
- Strong personal credibility and presence, inspiring team members to achieve and exceed targets.
