The Department

Our vibrant and growing Charities Team advises a wide range of clients on charity law, governance, mergers, fundraising, structuring, and more. We are active in the charity sector, publishing thought leadership pieces and attending events to stay connected with current issues.

The team is led by Partner Liz Brownsell, and we are expanding our Bristol office as part of our growth strategy. We work with charities, independent schools, social enterprises, and other not-for-profit organisations, as well as high net worth individuals and corporates on philanthropy.

The Candidate

We are seeking an entrepreneurial, enthusiastic, and ambitious individual with specialist expertise in charity law. The ideal candidate will lead on their own matters, build a team of specialist charity lawyers, and contribute to business development activities.

Strong technical drafting, research, and communication skills are essential, along with a commercial and pragmatic approach. The ability to deliver a client-focused service, providing clear, timely, and practical legal advice on complex charity law and regulation matters is crucial.

Qualifications/Experience

We are looking for an individual with a strong academic background, at least 8 years of PQE, and a keen interest in business development and growth opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a good level of experience as a charity law specialist and be committed to assisting Birketts in the growth and development of our Charities practice.
