We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Clinical Coder to join our team at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. As a Senior Clinical Coder, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of clinical coding data, working closely with clinicians and other stakeholders to achieve high-quality information and clinical coding.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You will be responsible for managing your time effectively, supporting the department in all aspects of day-to-day clinical coding practice, and ensuring that deadlines are met for internal and external reporting.
You will be required to possess a strong understanding of clinical coding rules and conventions, with the ability to analyze complex clinical records and provide support and advice to colleagues on coding matters. Experience in adult cardiothoracic coding is highly desirable, as is knowledge of SNOMED CT.
The role will involve working autonomously, with minimal supervision, and will require the ability to work flexibly across specialties. You will be responsible for uncoded finished consultant episodes for all specialties, delegating workload to ensure coding targets are met.
We offer a competitive salary of £28,407 to £34,581 per annum, with an additional £4,000 recruitment and retention payment scheme. The successful candidate will be entitled to this payment, which will be paid in instalments across 12 months.
Main Responsibilities- Abstract, analyze, and translate complex clinical data into diagnostic and procedural coding using national coding classifications.
- Ensure deadlines are achieved for internal and external reporting.
- Work closely with clinicians and other stakeholders to achieve high-quality information and clinical coding.
- Provide support and advice to colleagues on coding matters.
- Manage time effectively and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
- Work autonomously, with minimal supervision, and work flexibly across specialties.
- Uncode finished consultant episodes for all specialties and delegate workload to ensure coding targets are met.
- Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ).
- NHS Clinical Coding Experience.
- Experience in complex coding to approved standards.
- Excellent knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent understanding of anatomy and physiology.
- Planning and prioritization of workload to meet deadlines.
- Experience of mentoring junior members of the coding team.
- Knowledge of SNOMED CT.
