About the Role

The Ministry of Defence is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Operational Analyst to lead the Operational Research Branch (ORB) in the British Army's Land Warfare Centre. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing the delivery of the Land Operational Analysis (OA) programme, which involves working collaboratively with industry partners and colleagues from across government.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of the Op Research OA Team, including line management responsibility of SEO grade analysts.
  • Manage the OA programme, including commercial oversight and project deliverables, in conjunction with industry partners.
  • Develop, manage, and govern deployable tools and models, ensuring their continuous improvement and engagement with 3* and 2* Army HQs to meet Operational Analysis demands.
  • Establish and maintain suitable pre-deployment qualifications for the OA team and ensure they are ready to deploy on exercises and operations.
  • Represent HQ LWC when liaising with the Field Army and working in support of OA tasks, delivered by external suppliers.
  • Operate qualitative and quantitative analytical methods, including statistical modelling, data mining, analytics, and visualisation, and set best practices for use of methods and tools among the direct team and wider pool of deployable analysts.
Requirements
  • Hold a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subject.
  • Have team leadership or line management experience.
  • Have experience of achieving impact with analysis in support of decision making.
  • Have knowledge of Operational Research/Analysis techniques.
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of working in a military environment and/or with a military customer.
  • Experience of applying Operational Research/Analysis techniques.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, such as The Operational Research Society.
