London, Greater London, United Kingdom The Guinness Partnership Full time

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Interim Head of External Affairs to provide fixed-term cover from April to December. This is a full-time vacancy with two days a week based in our central London office.

As a key member of our team, you will work closely with the Director of Strategy and Policy to implement and shape our external affairs strategy. You will lead a small in-house team of external affairs professionals, guiding their work to enhance our external profile and reputation through strategic stakeholder engagement, horizon scanning, and intelligence sharing.

You will be responsible for managing environmental and horizon scanning activities, ensuring short, medium, and long-term strategic challenges are anticipated and relevant colleagues are engaged and informed. You will represent us at external events and help influence policy outcomes for social housing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a wide range of relationships with relevant sector bodies and groups, identifying opportunities to add our voice in areas where we have strong knowledge and expertise.
  • Develop and implement effective stakeholder engagement strategies to enhance our external profile and reputation.
  • Lead a team of external affairs professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure they are equipped to deliver results.
  • Represent us at external events, conferences, and meetings, promoting our interests and influencing policy outcomes.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual who can demonstrate a strong understanding of influencing and lobbying in the British local and national political system. You will be a confident collaborator and networker, able to build and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.

You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to create impactful reports, letters, briefings, consultation responses, and presentations. You will be able to demonstrate a proven ability to 'hit the ground running' or previous experience of interim practice.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education to Level 6 (degree or equivalent).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Understanding of the role of customer voice in external policy and influencing work.
  • Knowledge of housing policy, particularly those areas most relevant to social landlords.
