About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Human Factors Engineer to join our team at Bailie Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert Human Factors support and overseeing the Human Factors operational needs of our clients in the UK Defence domain.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and assess Human Computer Interaction (HCI) solutions using agile engineering approaches.
  • Conduct Human Machine Interface (HMI) assessments, including spatial, workplace, and workspace evaluations.
  • Analyze cognitive workload and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Develop and manage Human Factors Integration Plans (HFIPs) and technical HF elements.
  • Conduct human failure assessments and submit reports in support of safety cases.
  • Provide Human Factors advice to stakeholders across various disciplines.
  • Manage time and budget for HF programs of work and tasks within larger contracts.
Requirements
  • Educated in a human factors-related subject, such as Product Design, Engineering, or Psychology.
  • At least 2 years of experience applying human factors in a related sector.
  • Experience in providing Human Factors support to Safety Cases, including development and substantiation of Human-Based Safety Claims.
  • Experience in applying Human Reliability (failure) Assessment methods and techniques within the high-hazard industry.
  • Extensive experience in conducting Defence-related HF projects.
  • Working knowledge of relevant UK and international standards/guidance and their application.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
  • Substantial experience working directly with clients and representatives from stakeholders.
  • Competent use of MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Excellent communication skills and consultation proficiency, with intrapersonal emotional self-awareness and integrity.
  • Evidence of a commitment to technical excellence and continued professional development.
Desirable/Preferred
  • Registered member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF), chartered, or willing to work towards chartered membership.
