Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist - Head and Neck

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist to lead the Head and Neck Cancer Team at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide operational, clinical, and professional leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality care to patients and their carers. They will also contribute to strategic leadership as part of the Speech and Language Senior Management team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical expertise in the assessment and management of patients with swallowing and communication difficulties arising from head and neck cancer
  • Leading, developing, and managing a specialist team delivering services to the Trust's ENT, Maxillofacial, and Oncology specialties
  • Contributing to the transformation and continuous improvement of the service, using quality improvement approaches to support the development of an integrated, efficient, and responsive Speech and Language Therapy service
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • HCPC registration
  • Completion of successful Masters modules or equivalent
  • Registration with RCSLT
  • In-depth knowledge of therapeutic interventions and assessment tools
  • Highly specialist knowledge of dysphagia and clinical educator experience
  • Surgical voice restoration competence, including complex valve change
Person Specification

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to provide and receive complex and sensitive information. They will also have highly developed listening and observation skills, with the ability to manage emotional consequences and negotiate skills.

The ideal candidate will be able to work in a variety of settings, access transport for off-site meetings, and undertake light physical effort. They will also be able to carry clinic and teaching equipment or use correct aids.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such, a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) will be required.
